The Department of Health & Family Welfare, West Bengal, on July 10, 2026, issued a notification regarding Fire Safety in Health Care Facilities (Public & Private).
The following has been stated: -
• The West Bengal Health & Family Welfare Department has directed all eligible public and private healthcare facilities to conduct monthly fire safety assessments through the IHIP portal.
•Audits should cover one or more buildings/blocks each month so that all hospital premises are assessed within a six-month cycle, with focus on ICUs, NICUs, OTs, nurseries and emergency areas.
•A special drive for comprehensive fire safety audits was directed, with findings to be uploaded on IHIP by July 28, 2026, while the Ministry prescribed July 31, 2026 for reporting.
•District Fire Safety Nodal Officers must monitor assessments and ensure timely rectification of deficiencies relating to fire systems, electrical safety, medical gas pipelines, evacuation, training and compliance.
